Because Andrew brought up a bunch of entertainment possibilities that 
don't require tuning a TV signal.  I've found that XBMC is way better 
than MythTV for this use case.

FWIW, XBMC also has trouble with streaming video, and from what I have 
found, streaming audio too.  There are plugins that are supposed to work 
well, buy my mileage has most certainly varied.

I've found that XBMC excels for this sort of thing.  It can generate its 
library format from a directory using 'grabbers' to get metadata from 
places like IMDB and TheTVDB.  One can also simply navigate a directory 
structure to view something if it isn't added to the library.

I've got my DNS-323 home NAS set up to watch RSS feeds for podcasts 
(CBC, TVO, etc.) and for torrents, so I can automatically have my 
content waiting for me whenever I'm ready to watch it.

Did I just talk myself into a presentation? :)
