I've been playing with KnoppMythRD50 on a machine with the following specs:

Asus A7N266-C motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 1600+ (1.4GHz) CPU
256MB DDR PC2100 (I have 512MB of PC2700 coming)
250GB PATA hard drive
Hauppage PVR 150 with IR-Blaster
ATI X1300 256MB AGP video card
10/100 NIC
Viewsonic 19" widescreen LCD

I signed up with Zap2it, and KnoppMyth appears to have correctly found all my channels. The problem I'm finding is that playing or recording media doesn't seem to work. I tried playing a show and just got a black screen on my LCD. Is it possible to display out to monitor/LCD or do you have to configure Component/S-Video out?

I haven't attended a KWLUG meeting in sometime, but it's quite encouraging to see the work that has gone into the site.

I see some issues on this board that I maybe able to help with but have noticed a lot of the messages don't allow replys. Any idea why I wouldn't be able to reply to certain messages? It seems the ones that already have responses to them I can also add comments. So I'm assuming the one that aren't getting comments are because the reply mechanism is unavailable. Maybe it has to do with the type of post being used. I'm sure clearing this up would go a long way.

Hello all, i recently have installed PHLAK linux on my other pc, and i have wine installed and am able to play games but they suck so much cpu and im not able to run quake 2 or install quake 3 arena. Quake 2 is only able to be played in software mode with no fullscreen and just a small X11 window and i mean the smallest one, i would like to know why it's sucking so much cpu, i have all the requirements for the game, i have a pentium 2 350MHZ machine and it's got 640MB or RAM and an ATI radeon 7000 agp 32MB graphics card whih is clearly capable of OpenGL graphics because i've run OpenGL graphics games on it before!!! I have no idea why they suck so much cpu power!!

Ok, I've taken a few classes and done some UNIX/GNU Linux reading but have never seen this in any of my reading. I understand it at a local machine level, setting up users and groups with access to specific resources but never at a LAN/WAN level. Working in a completely Windows shop may have deluted my concepts as well.

What does Linux use for a multi-user Windows-domain-style set up (without a Windows domain)? I've seen a lot of 'server' versions of GNU Linux and distros but how do they authenticate in a multi-PC environment? Does GNU Linux offer the option to authenticate with a single server or 'domain controller' and then have access to multiple resources on the network? Where do you set up the users/groups?

I was messing around with C last night following a few examples in the book "C in Easy Steps" and I wrote some code for which I get a cast error. I delved into the brief pointers section of the book, but it didn't help clarify how to solve the problem. (Sorry I can't be exact, I left the actual code at home). The code segment went something like this:

I just installed Ubuntu June 2006 version on my x86 Pentium 4 PC. I have a HUGH problem configuring the sound / multimedia system.

I have a C-Media 9880 sound card manufactured in Taiwan. Currently the Volume Control can let me choose between:

a) C-Media CMI 9880 (OSS Mixer) or
b) HDA Intel (Alsa Mixer)
