Do you have a great idea for a presentation topic at a future meeting? Add your topic suggestion to this list by creating a new presentation topic entry.

A presentation topic suggestion should give some indication of the type of presentation you are suggesting. Is it for beginners, super-geniuses, or somewhere in between? You should also indicate if you are willing to present the topic yourself.

Those interested in the topic can add a comment. Those interested in volunteering to present the topic should definitely respond with a comment.

m0n0wall (firewalls on a stick) - particularly for DMZ and internal only.

Without meaning to start a war, it's my understanding that m0n0wall is regarded as the best firewall on a stick. If memory serves, it's also argued that IPcop is, but it may be that my memory is faulty and the 'top' two are something else. Regardless, the presentation can affirm or correct this.

Preferably within/under VMware ...

  • baseline: m0n0wall as firewall between internal and external machines.
  • demonstrate DMZ, i.e. rules between external and DMZ, and DMZ and internal.
  • demonstrate internal-only control.

Introduction to OpenStreetMap

frontpage_logo.jpg

OpenStreetMap is a project aimed squarely at creating and providing free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them; the project was started because most maps you think of as free actually have legal or technical restrictions on their use, holding back people from using them in creative, productive or unexpected ways."

An introduction to the Who, What, Where, Why of OSM will be followed by a demo of the steps in collecting, categorizing and contributing data to OSM.

This topic was originally presented at HOSUG on 12 December 2006.

Open Office tips

openoffice.png

Earlier in the year I started an hour long session with volunteers at The Working Centre to get them used to using Linux. I did some open office presentations. If people are interested, I could also show them during the pre-meeting.

kwlug.org, Drupal @ - What's here, how is it organized, and how is it used?

At the March 2007 meeting we had an excellent presentation on Drupal. A nice high-level overview of what Drupal is, what it can do, and how it's being used in various places.

Could we have a presentation on the next step please? How is Drupal being used at kwlug.org? How does one participate / contribute content to kwlug.org, as an individual, or as representatives of K-W LUG?
