LinkedIn is definitely valuable. Countless people have told me that it was directly responsible for getting them opportunities.
Provided you add enough details (more than the details you put on a resume), it's essentially a place where employers and recruiters can find suitable candidates for jobs quickly, and where you can find suitable jobs to apply for quickly.
Of course, like any site, it's got some issues - there's the odd spammy recruiter, connection request, or message. For example, these past 6 months I've been getting tons of requests out-of-the-blue from people abroad asking to be hired as a remote programming instructor. Each request is worded perfectly and free of grammatical errors. But I asked one of them (who listed every technology under the sun in his LinkedIn message) if he knew KeruGL (which doesn't exist) the reply was "yes, I am expert in KeruGL and can wage negotiation and start working immediately if opportunity."

On Sun, 7 May 2023 at 14:51, Jeff Smith <crankyoldbugger@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi,

I'm doing the dreaded job search, and have can't resist Linked-In any
longer.

Any opinions on the value these days of a Linked-In profile?

I still haven't forgotten them being hacked and having the users' *clear
text* passwords extracted (if I recall the incident correctly - maybe
poorly hashed & unsalted?).

Also, I've been checking out the interface, updating my profile, and
seeing who's in my connections feed. I may have requested a couple
"connections" already.

If you don't want to connect with me, I understand. Join the long list,
beginning with Mom. /jk

If anyone's on Linked-In, recognizes me, and is willing to "connect"
and, better, share some endorsements, please reach out off-list.

It would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

rb
