A few months back I posted a similar email to the group in which I mentioned that I was using nwipe, with is a linux fork of dban. I still consider nwipe to be a good choice here, but if you're getting really slow speeds then check your connections. If you're mounting the drive inside a PC then fine, but it you're using a toaster oven as an external dock then try to use USB3 connections. It makes a difference.

On Thu, 15 Jul 2021 at 12:23, Charles M <chaslinux@gmail.com> wrote:

Normally I'd use DBAN to wipe hard drives and partedmagic to securely
wipe SSDs. I had a request recently for some zip disks and wondered if
anyone has a good method for wiping these that would meet a DOD-short
(3 pass standard). I tried nwipe and it started out well, but part way
through ended up with a million or so hours to wipe a 100MB disk. (I
ended up using gparted and the drive seemed to be okay, but not
securely wiped).
There's a dd tutorial here that looks pretty good (for USB keys):
Just wondering if someone has used any other tools to wipe zip drives?
Cheers,
