<html><body><span style="font-family:Verdana; color:#000; font-size:10pt;"><div>I unfortunately don't have one of these adapters kicking around to help out, but I know of a couple of differences that explain their cost discrepancy. </div><div><br></div><div>First, some support passing audio from the HDMI source through a 3.5mm jack, while others simply lack the option.<br><br>Second, these are active adapters, meaning there's a chipset in the adapter drawing power from the HDMI port to convert the video signal. As device manufacturers are known to deviate from the standard for power delivery via HDMI, many adapters run into compatibility issues with power-conscious devices such as Chromebooks, tablets, etc., necessitating power be pulled elsewhere. Some of the pricier adapters have a USB-Micro/Mini connector and cable to pull power from an adjacent USB port or wall-wart supply to get around this limitation.<br><br>- Lanny<br></div>

Does anybody have an HDMI->VGA adapter/dongle they could bring to the<br>
meeting on Monday? One of our presenters only has HDMI on his laptop.<br>

I might be able to scrounge something up but I am not sure yet.<br>

I was also looking at Canada Computers. The prices on these dongles<br>
varies a lot, but I am not sure why. Does anybody know?<br>
