Paul, after reading that opening paragraph I'm going to suggest that you take a day off.. go for a walk, smell the flowers, that sort of thing... your friends care about you! You've been working too hard!

I wanted to go to that meeting, but unfortunately I have to be in Stratford that night. I look forward to the film at 11...

On Sat Jan 31 2015 at 1:20:05 AM Paul Nijjar <paul_nijjar@yahoo.ca> wrote:

Just as penguins makes us think of penguin pee which makes us think of
Linus Torvalds which makes us think of Linux, the first thing that
comes to mind when one utters the phrase "application virtualization"
are whales -- specifically, whales carrying boxes on their backs.
Like whales, containerized applications are plentiful in our world,
and make valuable contributions to the world's computing ecosystems. Noted
marine biologist Tim Laurence has spent a significant fraction of his
life -- like, three months -- studying the implications of whales
carrying boxes on their backs. This month he will share his
findings with us by telling us all about Docker, a trendy application
virtualization platform that allows us to package and ship
applications that can be run anywhere, but are more lightweight than
traditional operating system virtualization methods. Tim's
presentation will start around 7pm.
In offtopic news, the laptop rescue project continues at Computer
Recycling. The next project day is Saturday Feb 7, from 4-8pm. If you
would like to participate, please contact me offlist.

And that's it for this edition of stretched metaphor meeting
announcements. February's stretched metaphor meeting will be held at
the usual location:

St John's Kitchen
97 Victoria Street North
(at the corner of Victoria and Weber)
Kitchener

For maps and photos of the location, visit http://kwlug.org/sjk .
Park your sailing ships in the thrift store parking lot, and your
dinghies along the side of the building.

Doors open around 6:30pm, and setup helpers are always welcome.
The meeting starts at 7pm.
