I tried the script using Notepad++ on (cough) WinXP.
Syntax highlighting seemed to be OK.

Notepad++ is based on the Scintilla editing component.
On www.scintilla.org I saw the following:
"Scintilla and SciTE are currently available for Intel Win32, OS X, and
Linux compatible operating systems with GTK+."
(Emphasis is mine.)

/notepad++

Perhaps another Linux based code editor buily around the Scintilla
editing component will work.

YMMV
