<div><br></div><div>I Believe Virtual Machine is the correct term. Only not in the sense of KVM or XEN (HArdware virtualization); rather similar to .NET or Java Virtual Machine.</div><div><br></div><div>Linux does have a HAL (hald); A quick search reveals that hald has been replaced by udev.</div>
