The way I understand it is ...<br><br>Android phones are Linux based. This includes Robert's Motorola Milestone. Google allows you to write apps in Java, and all that, but does not want you to mess with the lower level stack (drivers, Linux, ...etc.)<br>
<br>Nokia N900's runs Maemo which is a full Linux stack. I think they don't restrict anything although some stuff by definition may be close (perhaps the SIM card drivers, GSM drivers, ...etc.). They have a repository where you can install stuff from. They *should* have the source available somewhere too.<br>
