I have not tried USBs. Easier to burn the CD ISO as it was downloaded I guess.

I have tried bootable CDs at Futureshop, Staples and Best Buy. At Staples, they lock the laptops in a "cradle/cage", which blocks the CD. I would ask that I need to boot a CD, and they always obliged. Even when not doing this, no one objected. Some would look curiously and then I tell them this is Linux. I sometimes give them the CD itself too.

Why a CD? why not a bootable USB? These days it is more likely that you will find computers with USB ports than CDs.
And I think that you know the obvious "Linux" answer. Take a live CD/USB of the distribution/Desktop environment you are most likely to use.
I guess taking several wouldn't bee too bad. I have had mixed success with Hibernation and Auto suspend on lid close for example.
Some load the Synaptic driver for the touchpad, some you have to do it yourself.
Me? I would take an ubuntu, puppy and SuSE.

Subject: [kwlug-disc] good live CD to test laptops in store

i'm thinking of taking along a live CD/DVD to test
various laptops
for linux compatibility at a couple computer stores.
is there any
particular live version that people have found that is more
useful
and/or informative than the others? a good distro
that will really
stress test the box? thanks.
