I don't think any of the corporate folks here have asked for
sponsorship, nor has there been anything requiring a shareholder
meeting - which in my case, whereever I am, there's the shareholder
meeting. We're overcomplicating it. The lug may need some money for
rent. Some folks have offered to help defray the costs, I don't see
any strings attached and it's no more complicated than that. And
speaking for myself, I really don't want any strings or sponsorship
attached to it (this isn't a marketing platform for any of us).

Let's move past the idea of sponsorship. Take the money, use it to get
some space and leave it at that. The companies can figure out how to
justify it beyond that point.

I think that the only legitimate way for a business to sponsor a
meeting would be if one company "hosts" a meeting and picks up the
expenses. Every thing else is a paperwork/legal kerfluffal (sp?)
I am not against the idea. But for an incorporated business entity to
hand over any amount of money from its bank account, it has to account
for it, and if there is more than one shareholder, approved.
To that end, I would have no problem attending a corporately sponsored
KWLUG meeting. I may even have the potential to sponsor one by the end
of the year.

Again, let us not allow the usual "scope creep" to derail the main point.
I did NOT suggest that we incorporate. This is a separate discussion.
All I was suggesting is that companies that are willing to put in some
money come forward and say they can do that, for the purpose of
securing a meeting place for a year. Three companies are willing so
far (netdirect, insurance squared and 2bits). The math says we need
just one more, preferrably a few more.
Which place to rent is another discussion too. Let us just agree on whether
this is something that can be taken forward or to be killed right now.
So far the responses have been positive mostly about this. We can
explore that more if we do not find a good rental space for February.
