OK, PickUpPal has potential...

The user agreement wobbles a bit off ("we can change these terms, and
you have to find out for yourself, nyah nyah" - paraphrased), and they
seem awfully cavalier about distributing my personal information (but I
guess they have to, in order to connect people together). And the
agreement seems to overdo the legal aspects ("Don't transport nuclear
weapons, or things that smell bad") while also absolving themselves of
all blame.

Still, the idea is sound. I've created a PickUpPal group for Ontario
GNU/Linux Fest, and added my ride. Let's see if it has legs. Or
wheels. But I'll keep the Google map up too, for the moment.

where I'm inviting people who are offering a ride to plot their route,

adjust their route to include the markers.
The map is publicly editable, so there is some danger of vandalism. A
*real* Web app should provide some protection from this, and should hide
phone numbers and e-mail addresses too.
And if anyone can show me how to draw arbitrary routes and points on
OpenStreetMap without affecting the underlying database I'll be very
happy to switch.

I will be driving down to the Days Inn. Depending on where you are in
the city, I can come to your place, or you can come to mine.
I will have room for several people.

Hello all,
I am a newbie here. It's nice to hear about this exciting coming
event. I have registered for it and want to ask for some travel
info. I have to take a bus, because I don't have a car. My current
plan is to take a Greyhound bus in the earlier morning on 24th Oct
to Toronto downtown, and then take a taxi to Days hotel. I don't
know if there is any other better ways to reach the conference
hotel. It looks like that the hotel is near the 401 highway, is it
possible to ask the greyhound bus driver to stop by the 1677
Wilson Avenue when bypassing it?
Any suggestions are highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael.
