[kwlug-disc] Bad review of Xubuntu 26.04

Thanks for the heads up ...
There is some confusing wording in the article:
Quote: "The biggest change isn't a change - it's that X11 remains, and
Wayland is still a work in progress"
So it is still X11 and there is no Wayland, or what?
Quote: "The kernel is at version 7.0, while Xfce 4.20 and GNOME 49 have
been "polished," according to the release notes, ..."
Is GNOME included in Xubuntu alongside XFCE? That does not make sense.
Quote: "... a freeze when the installer prompted me to remove the
installation media. I needed a hard reset to boot the new installation."
I have seen this on 24.04 installation media as well.
If you press Esc, then you will see an obscure error message.
It is a one off (you don't install every day), so a nuisance (why is there
nothing on the screen) until you power cycle and boot your newly installed
PC.
The author later says: "I found a couple of reports, dating to the 24.04
release, citing the same freezing and lock-up problems."
On 24.04, I've only had the freeze at the very end of the install. If that
is what was reported, then I can confirm it.
It seems apart from installation issues, 26.04 runs well.
He cites the usual complaint about snap, which I kill as soon as I install,
and that is the only encounter I have with snaps.
I don't plan to jump to 26.04 until October or so (after a 26.04.2 version
is out), and I won't be installing anyway.
I will be doing sudo do-release-upgrade.
