Very interesting...

But the obligatory question that always comes up with these cool boards/PCs
is: are they supported by plain vanilla Debian or Ubuntu? Or are we at the
mercy of the hardware manufacturer who has no interest in software, nor
resources to do so?

That means you use the board for a couple of years and cant upgrade to the
next release, eg Ubuntu LTS 26.04.

This comes up with every SBC and mini PC that is not x86 based.

The only exception (that I know of) is the Raspberry Pi. It has support in
Ubuntu, and I successfully upgraded from 20.04 to 22.04.
