If you're mainly concerned about data between two machines only, get a 
pair of NICs and directly connect them on a private network. So when you 
want to transfer the big files over the fast network, using the peer's 
10gbps private IP.

So say your main network in 192.168.1.0/24, give the two new nics 
something like 10.0.0.1/24 and 10.0.0.2/24. Will save you a lot of money 
as 10Gps SFP+ capable switches are still up there in cost, unless your 
plan is to repurpose the uplink ports. In that case, ignore this. :)
