[kwlug-disc] Meeting Location Shortlist

It is still the August doldrums, but I will offer a report anyways.
John and I visited both locations. We learned things about each:

- The UW location has some free parking at the edge of Waterloo Park,
just beside the Laurier-Waterloo Park ION station. It is still a bit
of a walk to the library from there, however.

- The Garment St location does have tables with power receptacles in
them. So I was wrong in my response to Cranky earlier.

John can add his thoughts if he wishes, but my opinion is that
although either location could work (and if only one was offered we
would choose it) I am inclined to go with the UW space. It is
unambigiously more spacious, and unambigiously better set up as a
classroom/lecture area. It has a good projector and sound system
already, and would not require much additional set-up prior to the
meetings. We will not need access controls to get into the space, and
the directions for getting there are more straightforward.

In fairness, I will also confess some biases: I am more comfortable at
a university setting than in a condo, and logistically it is much
easier for me to get to the UW space after work. (On the other hand,
I suspect it will be much more difficult for Andrew.)

There are definite downsides to the location: parking will be the one
most people will be grumpy about, and also universities packed with
students can be intimidating.

I can see three options going forward:

- Just start holding meetings at the UW location and see how it goes.
The downside here is that people might be unhappy and then silently
leave the group instead of saying something.

- Try a meeting or two at the library and a meeting or two at the
condo location. I expect people will be in favour of this, but there
are downsides: some people will get confused and go to the wrong
location, and also we will have to secure equipment (very likely a
projector unless we want to use a TV) in order to use the Garment St
  location.

A variant of this is to hold the first meeting at UW and then decide
whether to try the Garment St location afterwards.

- Acknowledge that the end of August is not the right time to be
making such decisions and defer. Hold the September meeting
online-only and figure out what to do for October. The downside is
that people might still withhold their opinions, and also that other
people seem eager to be back in person.

I had hoped that by writing this out I would find clarity on what
decision to make. I am not sure I have that. I think I am leaning
towards having the initial in-person meeting at UW and taking things
from there.

What do you think?

If you have other questions about the spaces we can also try to answer
them in this thread.
