I don't typically use gmail, but I logged into an account via the web 
and was able to reproduce this.

I filled out your first & last name, and email address, then saved the 
contact.  The contact icon is a photo of a couple -- presumably your 
parents. Editing the contact shows no photo set.

Weird.
