I like virtual terminal mode a lot, but I've also used FVWM2, Window Maker,
LWM, Sawmill/Sawfish, Enlightenment, and well a lot of WMs.  I've also
tried LXDE, XFCE, KDE, GNOME, MATE, Cinnamon...

I use MATE on LMDE 3 now and I still like it a lot, with the colour scheme,
the buttons, the panel which groups icons... the always-there panel annoys
me very slightly, though.  Anyway I like most WMs I've tried, but I've only
started liking DEs since I tried Linux Mint a few years ago.

I think I liked GNOME in the 1.0 days.  There was a movie with a lot of
pretty girls that was sponsored in part by the GNOME Foundation, I think
it was called Antitrust.  But I ramble...

Just...so much free good quality software...
