[kwlug-disc] Software to draw illustrations?

Inkscape is my go-to for drawing technical diagrams, posters, etc.

Having said that, when preparing teaching materials that used black
and white diagrams with lots of circles and boxes (flow charts, trees
and graphs) I actually found myself going back to Xfig. It is as ugly
as sin, but the interface is very well done and I find that I can be
very productive in it. It also exports to SVG now. 

I third the recommendation for Krita as a paint program. I have not
used it much myself, but other artists I know prefer it to other
alternatives. Whatever you do stay away from GIMP for anything other
than photo editing.
