Hi Ronald:
I just completed LPIC-1 and am working on Red Hat RHCSA. Certs are seen as valuable by most employers - some are put off by the fact that braindumps and cheating are rampant, and that's understandable.
I'd aim for certs that offer simulation-based exams, as they're a more reliable validation of the test-taker's skill set. If you study all the course material honestly, set up a homelab, and familiarize yourself with the technologies themselves (outside of merely aiming to pass a test), you'll learn a ton along the way.
..aaanndd it helps if you can sweet-talk your employer into paying for an exam or two.

Greetings,
I'm looking for informed opinions on the value of certification in
general (SysAdmin then Engineer), and on the Linux Foundation, RedHat,
and/or others.
Anyone able to shed some light on whether such things are seen as
worthwhile by employers?
I see Linux Foundation has exams for $300 USD for SysAdmin and for
Engineer certificates.
I'm a bit put off that the testing method is accessing their servers via
a web-based SSH thingy.
Thanks,
rb
