[kwlug-disc] Blogging software for Linux

On the topic of minimalist Markdown markup and Wordpress, I used a
variation of the following script recently:
https://github.com/parezcoydigo/markdown2wp.com
I did not use the image upload functionality. But for basic text-only
updates the basic idea seems to work well. One hiccup I ran into had
to do with newlines. Wordpress was taking my Markdown text and
inserting extra blank paragraphs at the end of my regular paragraphs.

And by blogging, I mean uploading snippets of information (e.g. "Coming Events", or "here's what happened at event XYZ") to a private website. Am I taking the old-fashioned approach to these websites that I maintain? I know WordPress is a security nightmare but it still seems very popular from what I see. (I know that also sounds suspiciously like Facebook...)
