In that case, perhaps imaging or P2V is a good fit for you.

The inflection point seems to be whether there is hardware in play or not. e.g. I have a scanner connected from SCSI to USB via an Adaptec USB Xchange.

You may be OK even with some USB devices such as your phone. I'm not on the scanner, personally.

The version I last used long ago was a free download that imaged itself to a catcher elsewhere on the network. i.e. The link above talks about vCenter, which I know nothing about - so I don't know if this is still the same / free / standalone utility that I've used in the past. Their P2V has migrated along with / to different product lines over the years. I believe MS has their own version too.
