Manulife just posted a position that may be of interest to members of this group. While it is an entry level job, there are good prospects for growth and the starting salary and benefits seem good (I'd think above $45 but that depends on your experience etc. + health, pension and stock benefits), Plus Manulife has a policy for a flexible work environment where people can work partially or completely from home.

The Canadian Division Central IS team is responsible for divisional project initiatives, risk management & governance, contract & financial management, divisional architecture and represents Canadian Division IS on the Global Technology councils for application and infrastructure.
 
As part of the Canadian Division’s Central IS team, the Technical Shared Services group specializes in providing a wide range of service oriented IT solutions related to IBM’s middleware products, and associated technologies. The primary function of this group is to provide infrastructure support and administration services for mission critical, web-based, business applications. 
 
The incumbent will work closely with a variety of business IS and project teams, as a middleware technology specialist, to help create, define, and implement component based solutions within the Manulife infrastructure. Further more the incumbent will work to maintain and improve the reliability, serviceability, and performance of the application infrastructure.
 
The ideal candidate will have experience installing, configuring and supporting various enterprise components (preferably application server or web based) in a distributed environment. Further more they would demonstrate excellent problem-identification and problem–solving skills which extend beyond the application layer to include the network layer, operating system, database, and/or data source connections. They would also be detail oriented, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and be able to integrate well into an existing team.
 

Responsibilities:
 Installation, configuration, and administration, of IBM WebSphere® (and related) middleware products.
Support for business application life-cycle; including packaging, deployment and support for various test and production environments.
7x24 production support (on a rotational basis).
After-hours support for production implementations, and changes.
Assist in infrastructure design, and solution planning. 
Provide technical support for business driven initiatives, and projects. 
Produce and maintain technical documentation.
Adhere to established implementation procedures and all internal processes
Communicate and work closely with business and IS partners
Work closely with team members to support projects and initiatives
Technical Qualifications (strong candidates will possess 4 or more):
2-4 years of experience in large and complex IS environments, in a role such as Systems Administrator, Integrator, Technical Analyst, Technical Specialist, etc.
Experience providing 7x24 support for mission critical business applications.
Demonstrate the successful integration, administration and/or maintenance of an enterprise level multi-technology solution.
Experience installing, administrating and/or supporting WebSphere® (and related) products, or equivalent Java J2EE compliant middleware products; such as Red Hat JBoss, Oracle WebLogic, Apache Tomcat, etc.
Experience with both client/server and internet based applications; specifically distributed multi-component web-based applications.
Proficient working within a multi-platform enterprise environment (UNIX, Linux) and can demonstrate proficiency at performing routine task from UNIX/Linux command line.
