[kwlug-disc] what is the perfect openWRT router?

Buy ata, unplug from bell demarc, plug into ata, done.

Sites like voip.ms have configs for asterisk and many popular devices.

Apparently avoid the later SPA-2/3102's post-Linksys hardware / upgrade
rev (that killed the hardware). They're now recommending a different
alternative, for some reason, Opus is coming to mind.

Raul recently did this (presented, too, IIRC - last presentation at
Huether?), John has presented more than once on this. Oksana just
plugged her ata in and got on with her day. (Unlimitel at the time.)

Nice thing about all of this - buy ata, plug spare phone in, experiment,
confirm. Can try before you buy, as it were. i.e. before cutting the cord.

WAF ~100%, she's picking up the same handset she always has.

Bear in mind some of Paul's comments may not apply from his business /
site setting to the typical residential environment.

At voip.ms you can play with all things but make calls. $25 deposit /
risk, afterwards. Voip To Voip free. So, without cost you can test
calling to DTMF and voice echo tests, with cost (but no charge) call
your other phones in the house. e.g. Softphone / PC to PC, Softphone to
home, register your cell with a voip client (if needed), and with one
hand work the home phone and the other the cell, and exercise until
comfortable.

Note: Nowhere here is OpenWRT mentioned.
