There is also krfb, which is KDE's remote desktop sharing solution, using
VNC.

Since you are on Xubuntu, some of KDE will pulled in if you install it. Not
sure how much nor is it acceptable in your case.

Doing aptitude install krfb will tell you what is being pulled in before
you install it.
