[kwlug-disc] what is the perfect openWRT router?

Well we finally got this settled...
After much yelling and screaming and using words that I was making up on the spot, I got Bell to:
a) cancel the satellite accountb) admit they were wrong about the rental unitc) credit me for one year's rental charges
So Phase Three of "Project Bye-Bye Bell" is now complete (Phase One was move from Bell DSL to TekSavvy Cable, Phase Two was move my cellphone to Telus, Phase Three is the TV)
All that remains is Phase Four: cancel the home phone and Phase Five: Move Wifeski's cell to Telus.
So I'm 90% ready to order the home phone package from Ooma. Khalid, do you still have that reference code so you get a bonus for referring me? Let me know as soon as you can so I can place the order.
This weekend Wifeski and I are going to that "mall" thing where they keep the Telus store and spying out some cellphones for her. We will be more than happy to pay the early cancellation fee, especially now that we have a credit account from the rental charges refund!
Then I will do my best Martin Luther King Jr. impersonation with my rendition of “Free at last, Free at last, Thank God almighty we are free at last.” !!
Thanks to all of the gang here who helped so far!
Jeff

Oh God! Paying rent for 3 years on a returned unit.

That makes Rogers look like saints!

Actually cancelling the satellite in itself isn't a problem, it's that these crooks are claiming that we still have a rental receiver. That unit broke three years ago and they didn't have replacement parts so we sent the unit back and bought a new one. Now they are saying that we still have it "at our cottage" (I've never owned a cottage).

So I phoned a different department (billing) and asked them why the hell have I been paying rental this past three years. so now they're trying to find the rental unit in their records.

Nevertheless, we've had it with Bell so we're dropping all of their services even if we have to pay penalties..

For Wifeski and I, we are in the middle of making Ma Bell walk the plank.. This is a bit off topic but ultimately it all comes under "why I need unlimited internet and a good router firmware".

We are trying to cancel our Bell satellite TV. They are pulling several tricks right now to get us to stay (including something that sounds like extortion to me), but they will be gone shortly. That's $90 a month liberated in the Name of the People.

Bell changed their terms of effective March 31. You have every right to cancel their services without penalty. I was moving and saved 6 months of charges. You have until the end of April to opt out. This was in the January bill package.
