Phew!.. It turned out to be a symlink. The data is still there.

Well if you have an drive that can be sneaker netted from the one location to another you could theoretically half that time for the initial backup.
Imagine finding a backup cafe. They have amazing coffee and a gigabit line dedicated to helping people do m m their initial backups. That would be neat. Or even a data locker of some kind byoh bring your own cloud drive.

So, at 5 Mbps (avg.?, DSL?), that's, what, 5/8 MBps, so 10 GB should take 163,840 seconds to copy up, or 1.9 days. Best case.

Oops, sorry, that's up, and residential service is usually asymmetric. So if 5/512 down/up, it's actually 19 days up to back it up.

Sounds like one would want to be selective about how much goes up, given the durations involved.

Having been selective ... where does the rest of your data go to be safe?

Wouldn't an eSata drive, rsync'ed to from everywhere on the net, nightly, be more optimal?

Or, what am I missing?

SpiderOak bro 10$ per 100 GB of online backup and it's zero knowledge and

You'll have a barrel of fun renaming that much data. The worst thing

about file recovery is you just don't get the filenames back from what I

can tell but until you try be sure to unplug the drive so nothing gets

written to it or its gone.
