I believe if an rsync processes is killed it will pick up where it left 
the next time the command is run again, but you may want to use the 
--partial option.  You could also suspend the running job into the 
background (ctrl+z) and resume it the next night with fg (run the 'jobs' 
command to see your suspended job).
