What I meant is that your logging daemon depends on what your
distro/version provides.

For example, on Ubuntu LTS 10.04, rsyslogd is the system logging daemon,
and yes it can stay in place.

But on Ubuntu LTS 8.04 the logging daemon is syslogd, and you don't need to
install rsyslogd to use logrotate.

So, regardless of your daemon, you can use logrotate and a post script,
without having to add something or change something in the chain.

Less software to use = less software to maintain.
