May I point out ...

There is a larger ecosystem to any project beyond just the 
programming, python or otherwise.

Just because you're not particularly interested in programming in 
python doesn't mean you won't be able to, or be interested in, 
contributing in other ways to a project.

Whether or not one personally gets around to programming in python, 
participating in any such project is likely to be highly educational 
and interesting. OK, fascinating, even.

Just because I don't perceive I have the time at the moment to dive 
into python, doesn't mean I wouldn't be keenly interested in 'auditing 
the course' as it were.

I have no doubt that any and all participants would be welcome, so 
don't let any lack of interest in python, specifically, prevent you 
from getting back to Bob on this.
