Last Thursday the Drupal group had an interesting presentation on
"Formulize", which looks pretty interesting as an MS Access
replacement.

The downside is that it requires you to be running an *AMP stack
someplace (which could potentially be a WAMP stack locally). 

The upside is that it can run as a standalone application, and is
intended for end-users to make forms. It looks like it offers rich
controls. Unfortunately the program is sometimes too rich -- there is
a learning curve to making it work.

Another downside is that the backend looks pretty tightly bound to
MySQL. There is some data integrity you can put into the forms, but
this happens at the frontend. 

Did you ever come up with a good candidate?
