[kwlug-disc] open source on Mac without Xcode

I'm no expert but I have a Mac and I think the reason everything
requires Xcode is that Xcode provides the Mac equivalent of the
build-essential package.  Just an uneducated guess from someone who
tried installing macports stuff before.

If you were to install those tools without installing Xcode maybe joy
would rain from the sky for you?
