One question to ask: how much virtualization will you need to do on
this box? If you are planning to run a lot of virtual machines then
you have to watch your memory capacity (and to a lesser extent your
hard drive speeds and CPU capabilities). 

More generally: what kind of workloads are you interested in running
on this machine? What problems are you trying to solve?
