[kwlug-disc] Samba / Windows connection

I am completely going off of memory here, but doesn't the smb user have to have permissions to the file folder?

ie. If I create a user brad with smbpasswd don't I also have to create a user under linux with the same name?

And that user has to have permissions to the share I am trying to access?

Again this is a couple of years ago that I touched this. Hopefully this helps you in finding the correct answer.

John I tried both smbpasswd and pdbedit -a -u to set up the samba
account and password. I am able to log in with smbclient, wouldn't
only having an /etc/passwd entry prevent this from happening?
