I can't comment on Gnome since I don't use it.

But, another Gtk application that I use "forgot" its settings. I had to
enter
all manually entered values again.

But you have it backed up (in that blog), so reverting back is easy.

Does it help OpenOffice (2.4) open quicker?


Can't tell for sure on that one. I am using 3.0 as well.
