[kwlug-disc] Botched upgrade from Kubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) to 9.10 (Karmic)

And now that I am trying even that (clean install from a new CD, after
backing up /home), it is not working even.
The CD boots fine, and works well, except the fonts are all messed up. They
are too big and I can't read the dialogs to proceed with the install.
It looks very similar to a previous problem I had. You can see a screenshot
One difference: my laptop is 64 bits, the one with problems is 32 bits.
