VMWare is a virtual machine you will need to install WinXP / Linux onto it.

I haven't used the VMServer, however I have the desktop version and I
know I have to create virtual image for each OS and then install the
OS into the environment. I would think the server follow the same
process, that is you can't use a preexisting install of an OS via
VMWare.
