August is here, and Civic Holiday is behind us, and that means it is
time for our August KWLUG meeting.

Michael Free will tell us about how he put together a sweet digital
signage system using bash scripts, which he subsequently packaged into
.deb files, deployed via Ansible, and managed his systems using
Cockpit. Rumour has it that Michael was unhappy with the existing
signage system he was using, so he wrote his own out of spite. In
addition to confirming or denying this rumour, he will give us the
grand tour of how he put his system together.

In our other presentation, Mikalai Birukou will tell us about
LibreOffice macros for spreadsheets. Apparently spreadsheets are
the dirty little secret that power capitalism? And apparently macros
are how we can automate actions on those spreadsheets to make them
tolerable. Mikalai invites you to bring your laptop (with LibreOffice
installed, of course) so that you can play along.

In addition to next Monday's meeting (and the probable post-meeting
socializing at Molly Bloom's), we will have another separate
restaurant-only meetup on Monday, August 26. It will again be at
Crabby Joe's in Kitchener. RSVP to dinner at kwlug.org if you can.

As usual, this Monday's meeting will be held hybridly: in-person in
LIB 329 at the Dana Porter Library at the University of Waterloo, and
online at https://webconference.kwlug.org/room/kwlug . You can find
more information about the meetings and the meeting location at
